Orchestra
The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra is a freelance symphony orchestra of around 75 leading Ukrainian orchestral musicians, composed of members of symphony orchestras and opera companies throughout Ukraine, as well as recently arrived refugees in Poland. The name of the orchestra is inspired by Beethoven and call to freedom, echoing the fight for freedom and democracy that is currently taking place in Ukraine.
Being formed currently in Warsaw, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture of the Polish Government, the Polish National Opera will host the musicians in Warsaw and raise the necessary funds for the initial residency with rehearsals and concerts in Warsaw. This initiative is supported by the Government of Ukraine, and is a partnership with The Metropolitan Opera in New York.
The Government of Ukraine will help to identify the participating musicians within Ukraine and arrange for their safe passage and transportation to and from Warsaw. The majority of the musicians will come from inside Ukraine, from orchestras and opera companies in Lviv, Odessa, and Kviv, as well as many who are refugees in Poland. Additional members may be drawn from the ranks of advanced Ukrainian music students currently studying in Warsaw.
