About the concert

Sylvia Huang, a first violinist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, shares the stage with pianist Boris Kusnezow in a musical exploration of Europe.

Sylvia Huang and Boris Kusnezow

The many folk cultures of Europe have left their mark on classical music. The young Belgian violinist Sylvia Huang and the Russian pianist Boris Kusnezow will be taking you on a musical journey. From the celebrated romantic Poème élégiaque by Huang’s compatriot Ysaÿe and the delicate music of Lili Boulanger, who died far too young, the journey continues eastwards, where the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák, the Romanian George Enescu and the Hungarian Dohnányi were inspired by the atmospheres, melodies and rhythms of their native regions. A rich colour palette!

Sylvia Huang is concertmaster of the Monnaie Symphony Orchestra in Brussels. Between 2014 and 2022 she was a member of the first violin section of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Huang was awarded the audience prize – the Canvas Clara Prize – at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition on 25 May 2019.

Close-up

Musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra perform their own programmes in the Recital Hall as part of the Close-up chamber music series. Each of these concerts is unique and performed only once as part of the series. It’s the very best way to experience the individual qualities of the orchestral musicians!
