Currents - A Night With Caribbean Classics

Tonight we'll drift along on the waves of the world with music as our guide. In this second Currents concert, we'll celebrate the rich Caribbean musical culture, with at its centre the Antillean repertoire. From classical works by composers like Jacobo Palm (1887-1982) and Wim Statius Muller (1930-2019) to interpretations of Curaçaoan pop and Ritmo Kombina songs. Two vocalists and two pianists with Antillean and/or Aruban roots will show you just how multifaceted Caribbean musical culture is. Classical soprano Imara Thomas, pop & soul vocalist Tamara Nivillac, percussionist Vernon Chatlein, classical pianist Alexander Kraft van Ermel and jazz & Latin pianist Danny van Kessel will join them, and you'll experience the colours and tastes of the Antilles. Antillean artist GENGÉ will also be exhibiting his art in the lobbies around the Recital Hall and sharing his life story with us, and there will be delicious Antillean snacks!

Every edition of Currents brings together a variety of artists from all over the world, who take the stage with their own songs to explore their musical roots. There's also room to go deeper, as the musicians will take questions from the audience in between songs. An inspiring musical journey that unites people!
