Orchestra
With Mother Earth - written by the famous Dutch composer Johan de Meij - this concert demonstrates the majestic orchestral sounds and subtle virtuosity of the 90 musicians of wind orchestra St. Cecilia from Grevenbicht, Limburg. Conducted by Jos Simons, the orchestra won the 2022 World Music Contest. In addition to Planet Earth, the orchestra’s program will also include symphonic transcriptions of Rossini and Strauss, as well as original repertoire for symphonic wind band by Mackey and Yagisawa. The audience will experience a magical program with dazzling melodies, intense interludes, and a grand finale that pulls out all the stops.
The program will be complemented with vocal ensemble F:e-m@il conducted by Nadia Loenders, and prominent soloists: Channa Malkin - one of the most famous opera singers in the Netherlands - will shine in arias from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus and Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia (among others). Leading musician Arno Piters (clarinetist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra) and clarinet virtuoso Koen Cuijpers play Mendelssohn’s breathtaking duo concerto.
