About the concert
Michael Haydn (1737-1806) was one of Joseph Haydn’s younger brothers and a good friend of Mozart’s, and his Requiem from 1771 was an influence on Mozart’s own renowned Requiem written in 1791. The Concerto for Harpsichord and Viola is an early work composed around 1760. Although the combination of harpsichord and viola is rarely heard, the two instruments go together surprisingly well. Pearls in Baroque’s CD recording of the piece, along with Joseph Haydn’s Violin Concerto No. 4, received rave reviews. As British music magazine Gramophone put it: 'Terakado and Amano set the standard in Michael’s double concerto'. Also on the programme is Bach’s Second Orchestral Suite in B Minor.
