When it comes to percussion, DOMNIQ is one of the most widely appreciated and groundbreaking artists. Just a year after graduating, he won the Tromp International Percussion Competition, and in 2020 he was the first percussionist to win the Dutch Music Prize. DOMNIQ is constantly looking for fresh connections within his discipline – crossovers with club music, dance, and theater are no strangers to him. In addition to his virtuoso playing and infectious curiosity for different movements, Vleeshouwers is an expressive performer who can be very theatrical, and then very vulnerable and intimate.
At Aural Spaces, he brings a Morning Sound Bath – titled Water Ripples – that embraces and triggers the space and its visitors. The sounds he creates are complemented by surreal images of nature – from delicate raindrops to the vastness of a dark cave. Visitors are immersed in the warm 4D sound world, where familiar phenomena are transformed into the extraordinary. Wonder and questions predominate here: 'What if raindrops rose instead of falling? And the ceiling became our floor, or the floor our sky?'.
This concert is part of the Aural Spaces festival. From 12 to 15 December, a new dimension will be added to the live music experience in the Recital Hall of The Concertgebouw. The familiar red plush chairs will make way for a 4DSOUND installation, consisting of 13 pillars with 41 speakers. Classical acoustic methods are combined with the modern technology of 4DSOUND, further expanding the possibilities of sound experience.
Aural Spaces explores the boundaries between sound and space, blurring them and merging them. The result is a completely immersive listening experience that’s all too rare. Discover and feel how the music moves through space!
