About the concert
The beloved honorary conductor of the Concertgebouworkest Bernard Haitink died on 21 October. After sharing a rich history spanning sixty-five years, we can rightly speak of the end of an era. The Concertgebouw Orchestra owes much to Bernard Haitink and has decided to present an extra concert on Sunday evening 6 February, 2022, which will be dedicated to Bernard Haitink’s memory.
Concertgebouworkest
The Concertgebouworkest is one of the very best orchestras in the world. But what makes the orchestra so special? Time and time again, critics have lauded its unique sound. While the exceptional acoustics of The Concertgebouw also play an important role in this respect, no other orchestra sounds like the Concertgebouworkest in the Main Hall. The influence exerted on the orchestra by its chief conductors - of which there have been only six since 1888 - and of the musicians themselves is also important.
