About the concert
Amadou & Mariam's concert has been canceled due to the passing of guitarist and singer Amadou Bagayoko. Mali's Minister of Culture announced Amadou's death in a telecast on state television. Amadou died in his hometown of Bamako, at the age of 70.
Combining traditional African influences with elements of rock, blues and pop, Amadou & Miriam's music earned the duo a worldwide following. They made more than 10 award-winning albums. For Dimanche à Bamako (2005) and Folila (2013), they received the Victoire de la Musique, France's Grammy Award. Dimanche à Bamako was also awarded the BBC Radio Award for World Music in 2006. Their 2008 album Welcome to Mali was nominated for Best Contemporary World Music Album at the Grammys.
Amadou Bagayoko's last international performance with Mariam Doumbia was at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
