In May 2025, for the third time in it's history, The Concertgebouw will host a grand Mahler Festival. After the Mahler Festival in 1920, in honour of Willem Mengelberg's twenty-fifth anniversary as chief conductor of the Concertgebouworkest, and the Mahler Festival in 1995, all the symphonies will once again be performed in the Main Hall.
Please note that the performance of the Eighth Symphony on Friday 16 May 2025 8.15pm is sold out as part of the passe-partout. This concert will also be performed on Sunday 18 May 2025 at 1.30pm. This matinee is now part of the passe-partout.
Orchestras from three continents will make their journey to Amsterdam. The Concertgebouworkest opens with the First Symphony conducted by its future chief conductor Klaus Mäkelä. The Berliner Philharmoniker will play the unfinished Tenth on the closing night. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jaap van Zweden, will perform two concerts. This third Mahler Festival in the history of The Concertgebouw includes an Asian orchestra for the first time: the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo. You will also hear one of Europe's best-loved orchestras, the Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by Iván Fischer.
The passe-partout for the Main Hall is sold out.
